Concentrate feeding machines

Concentrate feeding is becoming increasingly popular among dairy businesses. The calves determine for themselves when they will take concentrate feed. The concentrates retain their taste because the calf saliva doesn't become mixed with the feed and no additional milk is included during the milk feeding period.

A concentrate feeder can share a location with a calf drinking machine. The advantage is that they can be interconnected. When a calf begins to take more concentrates the quantity of milk will be cut back automatically. This achieves an optimal balance between growth and costs.

Benefits:
  • The calves always have fresh concentrates available (as long as the bins are kept full)
  • The calves themselves determine when they will take concentrates
  • Time saving
  • Labour saving

Disadvantages:
  • High initial investment
